Originally a feature of the Ionic order, one of the three canonic orders of classical architecture, the egg-and-dart design used on this beautiful, silver gilt frame regained popularity in the neoclassical era starting in the mid 18th century. Dating back to circa 1900, this wonderful piece of English origin also includes an original, slightly convexed mirror plate in excellent condition.
